near Bolgatanga, the capital of Upper East Region of Ghana, on the

A. Tertiary Programmes
i. GCE 'A' Level/GBCE/ABCE Applicants
Five (5) GCE 'O' Level credit passes (including Mathematics and English
Language) or five (5) passes in GBCE (formerly RSAII) including
Mathematics AND English Language plus at least three (3) passes in GCE
'A' level subjects (including General Paper) or two (2) passes in ABCE (RSA
III) subjects
Passes in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and
Science), plus three (3) passes in the relevant elective subjects with an
aggregate score of 24 or better for SSSCE and 36 or better for WASSCE.
For the non-science related programmes social studies is used for the
i. A candidate must not be less than twenty-five (25) years of age August,
2013; ii. Must have at least four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or four (4)
GCE 'O' Level Credits including English Language and Mathematics and
iii. Must pass a written examination and an interview.

Practising professionals such as Storekeepers and Accounts Clerks with
the requisite qualifications as in (i) above are encouraged to apply.

Applicants selected for the Access Programme would do one academic year
(i.e. two semesters of sixteen (16) weeks each) studying Mathematics,
English Language and Science. A final examination would then be conducted
by the National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations
(NABPTEX) in the three subjects, after which successful applicants shall
proceed to enrol into the Higher National Diploma Programme. A minimum of
50% pass in each of the three subjects is required for the qualification into
the HND programme.

Applicants should possess a minimum qualification of Catering 811/2, CTC II;
MVT II & III and MET II & III or its equivalent and Intermediate or Craft
Certificate or its equivalent in the relevant area of study.

Polytechnic soon.

After an HND in Marketing, a number of opportunities exist for academic
progression. As an HND holder, you may decide to progress on a professional
route or a purely academic route or a combination of both.
Professional Route
Graduates can progress professionally (i.e. obtain professional certificates and
become chartered members) by enrolling with either the Chartered Institute of
Marketing (CIM UK, Ghana) or the Institute of Commercial Management (UK).
However, it is good to note that CIM is the most widely known professional
body worldwide in terms of marketing. Graduates who wish to pursue careers
in marketing in the private sector are particularly encouraged to seriously
consider the professional route though a combination of the academic and
professional routes is also considered good.
Academic Route
Graduates of an HND programme in marketing have opportunities of
progression in most of the Universities (Public and Private) in Ghana. Topup
programmes (usually for two years) exist for graduates who will wish to
acquire a degree in marketing after the HND.
Outside of Ghana (e.g. UK) HND holders can enrol for a post-graduate diploma
programme for six months and qualify thereafter to pursue a master's

their capacities as Procurement Officers in any public and private, as well as
Nongovernmental organisations. They can undertake professional purchasing
for companies; perform duties and responsibilities of Transport Officers;
scheduling and management of fleet movement of logistics companies.
Graduates can be of immense help to most Relief agencies/organisations that
are into humanitarian logistics activities as key Logisticians/Logistics
Managers. They are equipped with the skills and competencies to manage
inventory, transportation, protective packaging issues effectively and

supply (CIPS-UK) where successful graduates of HND are exempted
from Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 exams and starts to write the
professional exams in Level 5 and eventually charter after completing Level 6.
(ii) Graduates can belong to Chartered Institute of logistics and Transport
(CILTUK) after successfully sitting all the papers in the various levels. The
above professional qualifications offer the graduates the opportunity to work
with any organisation across the globe as either a Professional Procurement
manager or a Professional logistician or a Professional Transport manager.
• Graduates alternatively could choose to pursue degrees; both first and
second degrees in Logistics and Supply chain management at the
KNUST in Ghana or from any University across the world that is offering
Logistics management as a programme. They could become
Teachers/Lecturers at Tertiary institutions or go into research to fashion
out policies in their area of discipline for government. Graduates can
pursue 18 months’ top-up in Bolgatanga Polytechnic or any Polytechnic
in the country.
• Ambitious and successful graduates after obtaining the second degree
could pursue PhD in either Logistics management or Transport
management or Supply chain management and after that as can function
as a Researcher or Lecturer or Consultant.

management studies graduates after completion:
Secretaries, public relation officers, senior administrative assistant, clerks,
cashiers, sitting tellers at the banks, managers, personal assistants,
coordinators, teachers specifically English, management, typing and short

Academic Progression
After graduation with HND secretaryship and management studies certificates,
the graduates have the opportunity to further their courses in the following
institutions in Ghana:
a. GIMPA- one-year top-up for a degree in the relevant area.
b. University of Cape Coast-Graduates with first class or second class
honours do two or three years depends on area of study.
c. KNUST-students have opportunity to do top-up for two years.
d. University of Ghana- students have opportunity to top-up their courses
for two or three years depends on the class obtained.
e. University of Education- students have the opportunity to top-up their
courses for two or three years depends on the class obtained.
Graduates with HND Secretaryship and management studies certificates have
the opportunity to do professional courses in Secretaryship with some

The duration for these programmes is two years (four semesters). There are
no external exams. All examinations are conducted internally with moderation
by NABPTEX. Graduates of these programmes can do one-year top-up
programme to bring them at par with the HND graduates, and then
subsequently enrol onto our eighteen months top-up Bachelor of Technology
programmes. These programmes cater for applicants who do not have the
requirements for straight admissions into our HND programmes.
