Brief History & Facts Pursuant to PNDC Law 321, which has been replaced with Polytechnic ACT 745, of 2007, Bolgatanga Polytechnic was established in 1999 but began its academic programmes in September, 2003. The main campus of the Polytechnic is located in Sumbrungu near Bolgatanga, the capital of Upper East Region of Ghana. The Polytechnic started work at the former Meat Marketing Company building in Bukere, a suburb of Bolgatanga. The building was eventually acquired for the Polytechnic which became its first permanent site. The Polytechnic operated from this site where it recruited its pioneer staff and also introduced its first academic programmes until in 2007, when it relocated to its new site in Sumbrungu on the Bolgatanga – Navrongo highway. Over the years, the Polytechnic has grown in terms of infrastructure, staff numbers and qualification, academic programmes as well as student numbers. Currently, the Polytechnic has two campuses namely, the Bukere and Sumbrungu campuses. The old or Bukere campus houses the Evening School of the Polytechnic where both tertiary and non-tertiary programmes are run. The Sumbrungu or main campus is where the Administration of the Polytechnic is located together with all full-time academic programmes. The Polytechnic, currently, has three Schools namely; School of Business and Management Studies, School of Applied Sciences and Arts and School of Engineering with various tertiary academic programmes run under the Schools.
